Longines Spirit Zulu Time: A Smaller and More Affordable GMT Watch

Longines has just launched a new version of its popular Spirit Zulu Time watch, which features a GMT function with a 12-hour local hand that can be adjusted independently. The new version comes in a smaller 39mm case size, making it more suitable for different wrist sizes and preferences. It also offers a two-tone option with gold accents for a more luxurious look.

The Background
The Spirit Zulu Time was introduced last year as part of the Spirit collection, which pays homage to the pioneering aviators and explorers who used Longines watches in their adventures. The Zulu Time watch has a ceramic 24-hour bezel that can be rotated in both directions, allowing the wearer to track a second time zone easily. The watch also has a date window at 6 o’clock, applied Arabic numerals, and a COSC-certified automatic movement with a silicon balance spring and 72 hours of power reserve.

The original Zulu Time watch came in a 42mm case, which was well-received by many watch enthusiasts for its functionality, design, and value. However, some customers also expressed their desire for a smaller version that would fit better on smaller wrists or under cuffs. Longines listened to their feedback and decided to create a 39mm version of the Zulu Time watch, which retains all the features of the larger model but in a more compact and elegant package.

The Details
The new 39mm Zulu Time watch is available in four different color combinations: sunray blue dial with blue bezel, matte black dial with black bezel, sandblasted anthracite dial with green bezel, and anthracite dial with dark brown bezel and gold accents. The latter is the first two-tone option in the Spirit collection, and it adds some warmth and contrast to the otherwise sporty watch. The two-tone version also has an 18k gold bezel and crown, as well as gold hands and hour markers.

The new Zulu Time watch comes with various strap options, including leather, stainless steel bracelet, and NATO-style strap. The bracelet has a quick-release system that makes it easy to change without tools. The leather strap has contrast stitching that matches the color of the bezel, while the NATO-style strap has gold hardware for the two-tone version.

The price of the new Zulu Time watch is very reasonable for what it offers: $3,050 for the stainless steel version on leather strap, $3,150 for the stainless steel version on bracelet, $4,200 for the two-tone version on strap, and $4,300 for the two-tone version on bracelet.

The Verdict
The new 39mm Zulu Time watch is a welcome addition to the Spirit collection, as it gives more options to customers who are looking for a versatile and reliable GMT watch that can handle different situations and styles. The watch has a classic and functional design that is inspired by Longines’ heritage in aviation and exploration, but also has a modern touch with its ceramic bezel and silicon movement. The two-tone option is especially attractive for those who want something more refined and distinctive. The new Zulu Time watch is a great example of how Longines can balance tradition and innovation in its products.
